Frequently Asked Questions
What is a salary advance loan?
A salary advance loan (also called a check-off loan) lets employed individuals borrow against their upcoming salary. Repayments are typically deducted directly from your salary through arrangement with your employer, making it a convenient, low-hassle way to access short-term credit.
Who qualifies for a salary advance loan?
Generally, you need to be:
- At least 18 years old
- A confirmed, permanent employee (not on probation)
- Employed with your current employer for a minimum period (commonly at least 6 months)
- Working for an employer that Phoenix Capital can arrange a check-off/salary deduction agreement with
What documents do I need?
- National ID and KRA PIN
- Recent payslip(s)
- Employer confirmation/introduction letter
- A completed salary advance application form, signed off by your employer where a check-off arrangement is used
How much can I borrow?
The amount you qualify for is based on your monthly or annual salary and the agreed repayment period — typically a portion of your net monthly income to keep repayments manageable.
How is the loan repaid?
Repayment is usually made through automatic salary deduction (check-off) coordinated with your employer’s payroll, meaning you don’t need to make manual payments each month.
How long does it take to get approved?
Because it requires employer sign-off for the check-off arrangement, processing can take a bit longer than a purely digital loan, but once the employer confirmation is in place, disbursement is generally fast.
What happens if I change employers before the loan is fully repaid?
You should inform Phoenix Capital immediately if your employment status changes, since the repayment arrangement is tied to your current employer’s payroll. We’ll work with you to agree on an alternative repayment method to keep your account in good standing.
How do I apply?
Complete the salary advance application form, have it signed by your employer, and submit it along with your ID, KRA PIN, and payslip. Once your employer confirms the check-off arrangement, your loan is disbursed.
